Elisa stared down at her very adorable and absolutely wonderful Teddiursa, nibbling her lower lip. Introductions had began a mere five minutes after she left Professor Lief's lab, and by the time they stepped into the route towards Vida Village, trainer and Pokemon were both familiar with each other already.
The Teddiursa was a Pokemon after her own heart, indeed. He was every bit as eager as she was, ears constantly twitching and gaze darting about -- the world was new to him and he loved every bit of it. The biscuits Lisa produced won him over completely, and now the curious bear cub was dead set on following his trainer.
And the thing was, she had no idea what to name him. This would not do.
Just Teddiursa? Nope, too impersonal. Teddy? Not creative at all. Arctos? A bit too grand for such a small creature. James? Absolutely no link! And so Lisa was stuck peering at her bear, running through all the options in her mind. A few came up as candidates, but she wasn't quite ready to commit yet.
The bear whined. He was getting bored, and her intense gaze was a bit unsettling; he wanted to explore the route. Really, what was a name to him? His species identified each other by scent more than anything. But he knew that his trainer was set on naming him before they moved on, and he resigned himself to sending forlorn looks into the bushy route. Maybe if something happened, it would spur her -- Lisa, was it? -- into action.

a wild ZIGZAGOON has appeared! MALE , Level 3 , Tackle , Growl
He was bored. He had been stuck here for most of the day, waiting for his friends to come back. They weren't obviously. That irritated the usually relaxed Pokemon, but instead it only increased the tiny frustration bubble all Pokemon had within them. He left the spot he had been sitting in for what felt like hours, and padded out into the route he knew human trainers often frequented. He didn't expect to see a human and bear though! Startled, he began to growl at the trainer and it's pokemon, hoping to scare them away.

Really, just a few more seconds, and she'd have it--
A soft, low growl interrupted her train of thought. Startled, she stepped back from the direction of the sound, wide eyes scanning the bushes. A brown-and-tan raccoon caught her eye: a Zigzagoon, she could tell. They were everywhere in Hoenn. You couldn't walk around a forest for fear of tripping over a couple of them, that was the saying back in Rustboro.
Lisa wasn't sure why the Pokemon was growling at them, but she suspected it might have something to do with territories and borders. Or that was what she was always told when she went to school in her city: wild Pokemon usually never attack out of malice; they were protecting their grounds; they had babies they were guarding; etc etc. She could recite the mantra. But everyone also knew that even if you could tell why a Pokemon was angry, you still had to be careful, because wild Pokemon were wild Pokemon, see?
Which was why she quickly gathered her thoughts and focused. This little guy wanted a battle, didn't it? Well, she'd give it one! She needed to train her Teddiursa, anyway, if she wanted a shot at the Gym. "Okay, dude, let's go. You see that guy there? Get in close -- real careful, of course -- and scratch him." Her bear nodded once, a little scared but all the same determined, and bounded forwards, forepaw raised in anticipation.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]Of course, he was going to defend whatever spot he had! This human had no right to be here -- well, she did. He was the one who shouldn't be hiding in plain sight! He shook his head, but with that it also lowered his defense just enough to let the scratch hit him. Howling in pain, he reeled back, shaking his head again to clear the fog the attack had settled. That wasn't nice! Digging his claws into the ground, he took a second to locate the best spot for his tackle attack, and lunged at the other Pokemon, hoping to land a hit. [/div] isn't it fine to say that we are loved? to be bound, so the world may never but touch The Teddiursa let out a small squeak as he felt his claws connect with the Zigzagoon. Immediately he hung back, terrified that the raccoon would reciprocate with a ferocious bite, and sighed in relief when his foe didn't. Just as stunned by his successful attack as his foe, he was wholly unprepared for the tackle that came his way.
Lisa gasped when the Zigzagoon's attack threw her bear backwards -- the small cub tumbled across the path and into the undergrowth. A muffled growl indicated that he wasn't too badly hurt, though he seemed to have no intention of coming back out. The coward!
"Uhm, hey, don't stay in there forever! Leer back, and get ready for the next attack!" At the same time, the girl berated herself -- she should have seen the return blow coming, too. She needed to get better at this, and fast. Frowning in determination, she watched as the bear poked his small furry head out of the bush, glaring at his foe.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]When the other Pokemon didn't get up right away, the Zigzagoon felt sort of weird; like he was guilty for hurting it. The human warbled something to the other Pokemon, and suddenly, the bear-looking one was back on it's feet, leering at him! Shivering, the wild Zigzagoon puffed his chest out and began to growl at the other. If this was going to be a test of 'who-could-out-stat-attack-the-other', Zigzagoon was going to lose. ZIGZAGOON used GROWL! leer landed ; -1 DEFENSE

Well, okay, that probably just negated the effect of the entire previous round, she thought. But it bought time for the Teddiursa to get its courage back up again, and now both trainer and Pokemon were ready for an actual attack.
"Bear, get up and scratch the Zigzagoon again, won't you? This time, even if you miss, just, uh, keep going and hide in the bushes, 'right?" She called down to her Pokemon, who gave a firm nod and raced up to his foe again, brandishing his claws. The little cub was running full-tilt -- he was neither fast nor nimble, and he often almost tripped over his paws, but a second or two later, he was across the clearing, with enough speed to maybe get him back behind cover if his attack didn't land.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]The raccoon like Pokemon glared heartily at the mini elephant and it's trainer, wondering if getting into this battle was such a good idea. Probably not, considering he was a weaker pokemon. Backing up, he bristled his fur. That didn't help at all; the scratch landed, and the raccoon yowled in pain. If anything, his fur was more of a hindrance! He stood on shaky legs, and glared at the Phanpy, letting a growl leave his mouth in attempt to lower the other's attack. She felt a little guilty for cheering when she realised that the small raccoon was in pain, though. It didn't seem to deserve being plunged into a battle -- all it had done was to defend its grounds, after all. It wasn't as if a stampeding Stantler had run into her.
Deciding that she would try her luck at catching it, she fished out her Pokeball, and called to her Teddiursa: "Alright, that's enough! Let me try this..." Aiming carefully at the Zigzagoon, she lobbed the Pokeball at it. If this succeeded, they wouldn't have to fight until one Pokemon fainted, and she would have a new team member.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]This poor Zigzagoon wasn't sure what was going on. First he was defending himself and his place, and then .... then a flash of bright red light. He was trapped! Struggling, on the inside the raccoon like Pokemon was running and throwing himself all over the place, trying to escape the Pokeball he was stuffed in. On the outside, the Pokeball Elisa had thrown was wobbling and wiggling like mad. It twitched. Convulsed. Twitched again. Soon, the Zigzagoon was tired. Twitch. Twitch. Click. congratulations! ZIGAZGOON was caught!

The Pokeball snapped shut and fell to the ground, shaking and rolling about, and finally fell still. The girl let out a sigh of relief that was immediately followed by a joyful exclamation: "Oh, awesome! Yeeaaaah!!" It was, after all, her first successful catch ever.
Her Teddiursa had scampered away as soon as the Pokeball was thrown; now, he padded back to her again, looking slightly dishevelled -- but otherwise fine. The damage from the previous rounds remained, but he didn't look too hampered by it. In fact, the cub seemed quite pleased with himself. Lisa leaned down and gave it a ruffle along his back -- he had done a good job. "C'mon, let's keep moving. We've still got to train some more if we want to take on that gym." She hoped the Zigzagoon was fine with resting for an afternoon or so, asleep in his ball; she'll find the Pokemon Center and heal up when they get to the next village.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] Watching from the bushes was a rather odd - and sometimes rare - Pokemon. Of coruse, where the others were concerned, he was simply nocturnal. He enjoyed his day naps and got what he need from the ground when he was awake during the day. But, being in the front row seat to a battle? That was certainly new. He clicked his mouth and scurried out of the bushes. Now with a trainer on the route, finding food would be hard because all the Pokemon would want to scavenge and hide food - all food - and find a new place to live. Hopefully, this trainer would see that he didn't want to fight; he wanted a caretaker! Hey, life of a trained Pokemon wasn't all that bad.

Elisa hadn't expected another Pokemon to appear, not so soon after the previous mini-battle. Her nerves, still fired up from that short encounter, went into overdrive, and the girl leapt back at the sudden emergence of the creature. Her Teddiursa yelped in surprise, having nearly been stepped on.
She peered down at the small orange crab. It was not a Pokemon native to Hoenn, but she did learn in school that such creatures, known as Paras, and their evolutions were highly-prized for the parasitic fungi on their backs. It had always made her skin crawl when she thought about how the mushrooms took over when they evolved. This Paras, though, looked rather more at peace than the Zigzagoon -- it hadn't yet launched an attack. Did it want her attention for something other than a battle? No harm in asking, though she had no idea if it would understand her. "You're not looking for a fight, are you? Do you... Need our help, or what?"
Meanwhile, the bear cub, ever curious, had wandered right up to the new arrival, giving it a tentative sniff. A bit damp, and slightly woody... Oh, his nose was starting to itch. The spores from the mushrooms had wafted up his nose without him noticing; sneezing twice in rapid succession, the Teddiursa backed away with a whine.
notes: Aahhh at this rate, Elisa will end up 39033232 level 5-ish Pokemon lol {Smeargle egg progress: 1/15} credit: template was created by rea of on the edge.
