levelling up vs. wild pokemon- is a 1:1 ratio.
you will gain a single level (1 level) per wild pokemon you defeat.
if you switch out at any time, each pokemon involved in the match will earn half a level (.5 of a level). if you use three pokemon they will get a third (1/3) of a level, if you use four they earn a fourth of a level (1/4) and so on.
if a wild pokemon beats you, the pokemon involved in that battle will earn half a level regardless.

levelling up against trainers- is a 2:1 ratio, meaning the most levels you can gain from a trainer (if you win) is 2. the loser trainer gets one level (1 level).
if you win against another trainer, each pokemon involved in the battle will earn 2 levels.
if you lose against another train, each pokemon involved in the battle will only earn 1 level.
