"Hello?!" Teriel called into the seemingly empty lab belonging to the professor of the islands. He was here to claim his starter pokemon and begin his journey in the Kaspan reigon. He had been very excited to come to the new place, and it only grew as he anticipated the professor's arrival.
"I'm here to get my starter!" He called out again after debating on whether or not to do so. "My name is Teriel Aika!" He figured he should also state his name so the professor didn't think he was a random newcomer to the area just to grab a pokemon and go.

Checking the timer, it was about… ten minutes until they were done. That was good! He didn’t expect anyone to come in within ten minutes, and he still had some work to do in the meantime— ”Hello?!” … Every time. Lief ran into the main room of the lab, still wearing his apron and mittens. His hair and his clothes were dusted with flour and bits of cookie dough. He even had a little chef hat on his head. He looked very unprofessor-ly.
Gah. Oh well. He just hoped he’d get his new assistant soon. “Hello!” He greeted the boy named Teriel, extending his mittened hand for a handshake before realizing he was wearing mittens covered in flour. “Ah, sorry.. I was baking cookies! Please, come in!” He said, walking to a sitting area with a table and some water bottles on it, as well as chairs and a couch nearby. “Take a seat, grab as many bottles as you want! I wasn’t expecting anyone to come here, so I’m not really all that prepared…” He grinned sheepishly. “But I’ll go get your Pokémon now—” As he said that, there was a ring! from the timer in the kitchen, and with an excited “oh!” he scurried off to the kitchen, “The cookies are ready!” The sweet, delicious smell of freshly baked cookies filled the lab.

Teriel nodded at the professor, despite he looked more like a baker overall. It looked like he was busy quite a lot, as if there wasn't much time on his hands. "Hi. Nice to meet you." He said before the professor rushed off to get the cookies and the selection of pokemon. Some things were pretty odd in the world, but hobbies didn't always revolve around one's profession. Eh, things go as they do.
Maybe the professor could use an assistant, which could probably make work easier. Just then he got a text on his cell. Picking it up he opened the message. Hey. You doing good? You got there okay? He sighed and quickly sent back a message to his mother that he indeed was okay. He made sure to put his phone on silent at that point.

Lief opened the oven and carefully pulled out the tray with a dozen golden brown chocolate chip cookies. They looked absolutely lovely – probably the best batch, for today. Forgetting all about the fact that he was supposed to be getting the Pokémon for the young man, he carried the tray over to the sitting area and placed it on the table with a big smile on his face, obviously proud of the cookies. “Help yourself! These came right out of the oven, so watch out, alright?”
The professor helped himself to a cookie, making sure to grab it with a napkin first. He savored the deliciousness of the homemade cookie with an audible “mmmm!” sound. When he was done, he looked at the boy again. “Ah—I’m sorry, what were you here for…?” It was just one of those days. Or maybe just the cookies.

Teriel hesitatedbefore grabbing a cookie with a napkin for himself. "I came to get my starter pokemon..." He said to the professor to help him remember. He then took a quick bite out of the cookie while it was still warm. He always did love sweet treats of the sorts. "Thanks. This is really good by the way. You are really good at baking." He complimented cheerfully.
"You really seem busy if you are forgetting things. Don't you think you would benefit from an assistant to help you out with your studies or work?" He wondered if the busy guy was looking for an assistant. If someone worked as hard as the professor, then an assistant would be useful. Teriel would probably get an assistant if he worked as hard as the professor.

“Ah! Yes! Sorry. I’ll go get them now.” Lief said when Teriel reminded him. He gave the boy an apologetic smile. As he turned to walk away he called out, “Thank you!” At his compliment, looking a bit more cheerful as he went to the backroom to start gathering the Pokémon.
“Hmm.. Yes. I’m actually on that. But…” He sighed, loud enough for Teriel to hear even when the boy was in another room, “Nobody has applied yet. So I’ll have to make do by myself for now.” He lifted the case containing the Pokéballs and brought them over to the table where Teriel was at. He placed the box on the table and quickly went back to the backroom to get the starter pack. He didn’t worry about Teriel running off with the case – the Pokéballs would be very secured in the case with locks, making it completely pointless to run off with them.
He arrived a minute or so later with the pack and set it aside, then opened the case and presented the Pokéballs to Teriel. The eight Pokéballs were labeled with pictures and names of their respective Pokéballs. Lief stepped back, smiling at Teriel. “Go on, take one!”

Teriel studied each one and analyed the basics carefully. Slugma could evolve into magcargo, slow, but it makes up for speed with defense. Voltorb could become electrode. Speed was a basis, but some moves weren't beneficial to deal with. Using rain dance with the lotad could make some powerful water moves. Poochyena could take out ghost and psychic types, but had an unvaried moveset. It was hard to really figure out, but he scanned the rest despite so.
Roselia might help with it's poison point, but couldn't evolve. Totodile? A powerful battler and pretty much a tank. Charmamder could become a charizard, using fire, flying, and dragon moves. Although it wasn't the fastest pokemon. Treecko was a bullet when it became a sceptile, but many things could really power it down. He finally made his decision and pointed to the pokemon he wanted. "Could I get the voltorb please?" He asked with a smile. Speed and power matched well, plus he had to admit, an electrode looked rather friendly and fun with it's general smile.

Professor Lief stepped forward and took out the Pokéball from its secured clasp inside the box and handed it over to Teriel, smiling. “Good choice!” He closed the box, nudged it aside and took the starter pack that he had previously set aside on the table. “And here are some helpful things to start you off on your new journey!” He said, giving the starter pack to the boy as well. “And that’s about it… if you have any questions –” He was interrupted by a ring ring! of a phone in his office. The Professor jumped in surprise, grabbed the case with the leftover starters, nodded apologetically at Teriel and ran into the office to answer the phone. The life of the Professor was a busy one.
