I'LL COME BACK --- when you call me --- ♫ ------------------------------------------------------------- ♫ Blend in, they said. It'll be easy, they said. No. No this was far from any easy she had ever experienced.
A newly discovered region meant it was ripe for the conquering, like a fresh fruit just waiting to be peeled and chipped away at for whatever secrets it's core had hiding within it. Perhaps uncharted Pokemon, maybe even a hidden location somewhere deep in this island that was home to a legendary of some sort. Or perhaps, it was just a squandering of funding. Either way, the second a boy had been robbed of his travel sack and the letter of invitation had been discovered, it seemed somehow so very wrong to just leave it sit with all of it's wonders so exclusive, like a dreadfully stuff VIP list just begging to be stripped of it's V and I.
Vovin was one of the few to be sent to visit this mystical place. Not lucky, no, because she reasoned it as if she, a genetically operated upon individual, could not survive it then no one could and the risk was far too high to send any further recruits. They sent her with little more than a few pounds, pokeballs, lunch rations for a few days and an empty journal. "Document what you see and hear of, and investigate what you can" they demanded, and she eagerly obliged. A mixture of work and play, this was a beautiful way to get out of headquarters and catch some sun for heaven knew how many years. She would not get sucked into the stereotypical idea of foolishly throwing away her current life and profession for the stylings of a dinky Pokemon trainer but at the same time, it was exciting.
Having been examined from quite the young age, she had seen little more than what pictures had to offer as far as interesting pokemon, and of course the occasional urban Pidgey or Wurmple skittering about. Then with her organization she got to see very rare Pokemon or Pokemon of their specialized trainers, though none of what she saw were the happiest of campers. It would be an endearing change of pace to see Pokemon that were not behind bars nor raging, since whether of not she was labeled as a 'villain', certainly that was no reason to treat any co-worker in ill fashion.
Yet all the same, this was.. Difficult. This entire little slab of land had probably never heard of humans getting warped into weapons of war, which was in her favor, but also something that worked against her. These innocent little folks had no clue what to think of her when she hopped off that boat, standing at a near 6'0 in height and bearing many an odd attribute, most of which hidden, but one of which all too noticeable. With each friendly smile, it seemed her fanged grin was never returned. No one asked yet just what she was, and quite frankly, she didn't have an answer prepared. Her mission did not read "explain your disposition to foreigners", and configuring a lie to spare their precious mentality was not on her tight fitted agenda.
Instead, she trekked forward and into the first town, humming a tune for company and spotting the only large enough building to be a lab in this small town. "Wonderful!" the navy haired woman chirped with joy, bounding towards the doors in a near skip to grip the doorknob with clawed hand, twisting it and stepping inside without even the thought of knocking entering her mind. "Good evening~" she nearly hollered, "Are you home, professor?" Things are beginning to get hectic at the lab, and with that came the thought of hiring an assistant. Of course, with the constant wave of new trainers it was only a natural thought. Forgoing a nap this morning, Lief tended to the Pokemon outside, helping the recently injured Girafarig left on his pathway late last night. A few people did that; they would travel across the region to place seriously injured Pokemon at his door. Didn't they know Pokecenter's were free? Lief didn't mind though, but his stock of Pokemon was growing rapidly with each new addition. With his stomach rumbling, Lief finished his project with the new Pokemon and headed inside, making a mental note to prepare an interview slip for a new assistant.
The larger professor headed into the lab, intent on getting some food into his system. He didn't have his morning nap yet, and he was settling into the idea of having his afternoon nape when he heard someone at the door. Resisting the urge to call back 'no I'm not', the Professor put his food on the counter and left the kitchen, smiling at the woman at the door. Although, a smile didn't seem appropriate; she seemed ... out of place here in the humble laboratory he called home. Clearing his throat, the Professor stuffed his hands into his pockets and took a few steps towards the woman. "Hi! I'm Professor Lief, how can I be of service today?"
Hopefully she wasn't dangerous.

I'LL COME BACK --- when you call me --- ♫ ------------------------------------------------------------- ♫ Scuffing her boots and twiddling her thumbs eagerly, the woman gazed around the laboratory curiously as she waited this fellow's arrival. A far less impressive feat than the one back home, yet she was far from surprised. This place nearly had no place on a map at all, and she doubted they had discovered the amount of technology and gizmos of even their smallest branch. But before she could actually hop over to the nearest machine to investigate it, she caught the audio of tapping steps and soon the voice of the local professor addressing her politely.
"I would not be here if you couldn't, professor~" she laughed softly, as if his statement was somehow humorous. As if no soul would be here unless they needed something. Regardless, she continued to grin with fangs clear as the light of day. "I'm here for my first Pokemon, professor Lief! You haven't forgotten to set out starters, have you?" she chided teasingly, bright blue eyes simply shining with the excitement of a child beneath transparent, circular lenses.
What an adventure this would be! And the more she sniffed through this little town, the less of threat it posed. A notable feature to present to her fellows when she could pay her new journal some mind later on. Lief didn't always feel strange around other people. He was in fact a very personable person, and enjoyed being in the company of humans and Pokemon alike. But there was something odd, something weird about this woman who looked more like she was here for other reasons. Instantly worrying that not having anyone other than himself in this lab began a regret, and only made the idea of - if he got out of this alive - getting an assistant the most forefront idea in his head. 'Don't worry mate. We'll get out of this,' a voice in his head said.
Wait. What? We?!
"I see! No no, I didn't forget." He chuckled, forcing his tone to remain casual and lax. "I have some water bottles out there on the table, are you hungry? I can whip something up real fast." He was hungry. If his stomach hadn't been twisted into odd knots it would have rumbled awkwardly. "Or should I just jump the gun and get your starters?" He rubbed the back of his neck, still smiling.

What an odd little man. He kept his voice casual, and even his body language while it stood borderline anxious but he still sent out a certain tension into the lab. A certain tension that told her he had no notable defenses against any kind of offense other than a few Pokemon, but even as she mused silently nothing was intended to be acted upon today. After all, she could very well be wrong and get herself into not only deep trouble but also blow her mission prematurely and even be without her starter Pokemon for this entire journey.
Research. Research would tell if he was alone or not, and who would notice if he was just so suddenly gone one day ; no longer giving tots and kiddies starter Squirtles and Bulbasaurs. Was this scrawny little region even enough for people to worry if someone disappeared?
Regardless, she kept her smile giddy and eager. "No thank you, professor," she spoke casually, unable to keep back at least a small smirk of amusement as he scratched the back of his neck anxious yet made no comment on the matter. "If you simply show me what you have to offer I promise I'll be on my way~"

"I'll be right back then!" Chirped the professor, and without another word turned around and headed - in a rather quick pace - towards the room where he kept all of the pokemon. Recently, he had rehabilitated the troublesome Ponyta into a trainer-friendly pokemon, but he hesitated with giving that one out. Even though he put the pokemon into the randomizer, Lief hoped that this Ponyta would show up again; maybe actually being with another trainer would help her get over her trust problems. Gathering the eight Pokeballs that shot out at him, he quickly returned to the woman; the faster he got this over with, the sooner she could leave. "Here we are!" He placed the balls down on the table along with their pictures.

Watching this fellow waddle off hurriedly, she held back a laugh at his nervousness. She prayed this was not the response she got at every town, after all, it would be hard to blend in and observe when you looked so out of place and people looked to you with fear that was unwarranted just yet. Maybe they just really couldn't of picked a willing agent that stood out more than she had managed to do in already a short time.
Seizing the moment to gaze around more at the facility, more and more disappointments were on the rise. This place didn't seem to have much pizzazz, now did it? How could a professor an organization could potentially have interest in work in such conditions? Where did he store all his knowledge, in that tiny, awkward little cranium? Surely not. But before investigation could be taken into commence, she heard the tip-tap of footsteps once more and went back to her former position as if she did not even dare to move a muscle in his absence.
"Lovely, Lief, just lovely~" Came a friendly as ever purr as she examined each Pokeball casually. Treeko, Trapinch, Baltoy, Nidorina and even the mere Remoraid were mentally excluded from the litter. She was in no need for such types, which sent Totodile by affiliation with water to the mental rejection bin. Water types were often a dime a dozen once you got near a body of liquid, and the others, well, they were not nearly impossible to find outside of the wild either. And all this decision making naturally led to a final but confusing conclusion.
Picking up both pokeballs that held within them respectfully a Scyther and a Charmander, Vovin scanned them other with a small frown. Scyther were rare individuals, strong at that too with blades for arms that she had once had the pleasure of seeing slice through mighty oaks and even solid rock. However, Charmander was just as elusive, and while the first stage of his evolution was nothing to take lightly, a Charizard grew up to be a fearful beast. Even her fellows had very little of these, and what they had she presumed thieved from fellow professors.
In fact, she could just dart out the door with both of them.. He'd never catch her, not in a million years. But it would raise more concerns than necessary as well and label her a petty robber. Hardly a title for someone of her status.. Rare as Scyther were, and as interesting as they seemed as a species, they weren't even close to the amount of elusive a Charmander could be. And with a fire Pokemon, she could catch as many Scythers as her little heart desired if she could ever find another.
"I think I'll have this Charmander, mister Lief," she decided, holding onto the fire lizard's ball and offering the Scyther's back to it's temporary owner. "Maybe I'll come pester you for this fellow some other time, no~?"

Watching her make her decision brought Lief back to his own days of his short trainer journey. He had once been a thin young man. Alright, not thin thin, but not as big as he was now. He had just set out from Cerulean City and was going to Pallet Town to get his starter. It had been a weird journey in the beginning, because he had encountered so many wild Pokemon, and instead of getting that urge to want to catch them as soon as he got his hands on some Pokeballs, he found himself more curious and intrigued by these creatures that roamed the earth.
When she picked her Pokemon, Lief shook his head to clear his daydream and smiled at her, all thoughts of being scared or nervous around her fading and he brought out her starter pack. "Here you go! Take care of him then." A smile on his face, he stood and headed back towards the back room, hoping the woman was pleased with her decision.
