s e r e n a ! The new trainer had only been walking for a small while before her muscles started to ache. Serena had gotten little rest in the past few days, though she had no intention of slowing her pace. She was one step closer to her goal, and she intended to reach that goal as quickly as possible. According to the professor, there was another village along the way, and Serena was determined to keep walking until she arrived there.
Serena glanced down at the well-trodden path beneath her. She must have been only one of a countless number of trainers to walk this journey. Suddenly, the realization of what she had accomplished in the past day hit her. She arrived at the Kaspan region. She collected her first Pokemon, her partner. She was a trainer.
A ghost of a smile played on her lips. One who did not know her well couldn't have even guessed that she was happy. Her face was as emotionless as ever, her true emotions locked deep within. The weight of the backpack thumped gently against her mid-back, reminding her of the Pokemon who lay within. Serena decided to name the female Growlithe Aurora, though she had yet to actually meet the Pokemon. She was determined to keep a brisk pace, and did not want a tiny Pokemon slowing her down.
Looking back up at the path ahead of her, Serena realized that she had barely progressed. Certainly, she had quite a long journey ahead of her.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] The young lady at such a swift walk and a distracted, grounded Spearow never mixed well. Much less one that was already rather cranky that the only grounded berries he was able to find were withered and already growing traces of mold. It was only this lady who accidentally trotted on his tail feathers that topped his little rage filled cake and made him let out a sharp caw of both surprise and anger.
Whipping around as quickly as his tiny body could, he let out another wail and tried to PECK this strange trainer's ankle.

s e r e n a ! Unlike one might reasonably expect, she was not shocked in the slightest when her foot fell on a Pokemon's feathers. Serena lowered her icy gaze until the angry flying-type Pokemon came into view. When the creature's small, yet sharp, beak made contact with her ankle, she narrowed her eyes, sparks flying in their brown depths.
She withdrew her leg, with a new, angry red mark on her ankle. Serena heard a muffled noise and saw something light up in her backpack. After a bit of digging around, she retrieved the sparkling new Pokedex that she had received from the professor. In a monotone voice, it said aloud,
Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. It flaps its small wings busily to fly. Using its beak, it searches in grass for prey.
Serena took a moment to contemplate the Pokemon's worth. Surely, this Pokemon was weak. She withdrew the single occupied Pokeball from her bag, which she still had yet to open. She pressed her thumb down on the central button, causing it to enlarge in her hands. "Go, Aurora," she muttered, "Defeat this weakling."
In a flash of blue light, the Growlithe appeared on the ground, a few feet away from the Spearow. Serena added in her usual calm tone, "Use a Bite attack."
Aurora blinked in confusion. The last time she had been released, it was at the laboratory. Now she was out in the open, and the only ones in sight were a human and a disgruntled Spearow. It didn't take much thought to notice that the Spearow was going to attack, if it hadn't already, so Aurora set her eyes on that target for the time being. She lowered her head, a rumbling noise erupting from her small body as she used a Growl attack.
Serena hissed angrily, "You belong to me now, Aurora, you, the Growlithe. I won't stand for a disobedient Pokemon." However, there wasn't any sign that Aurora had listened to her new trainer's words.Aurora used GROWL

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] What a fool of a trainer, she only seemed agitated that he pecked her instead of running away! Probably one of those asinine folks that were just coming from that big building that handed out Pokemon like candy, one of those greedy little buggers that wanted more. Regardless of what she was, this tiny Spearow was bent on not backing down once she sent her whelp out of it's PokeBall. Taking flight with small wings, he cawed in response to the growl before diving down at the beast to give it an aggressive PECK. GROWL CONNECTED! -1 ATTACK HP: 20/20 |

s e r e n a ! Serena glanced down at the Spearow with a slightly raised eyebrow as it cawed. That was one furious bird. She watched as the opponent went in for another Peck attack, this time directed toward her own Growlithe. She mused as she watched, ideas about battle tactics running through her mind.
"Let it hit you, Aurora," She ordered, "Then go in for a Bite attack, right when it's most vulnerable."
The Growlithe's ear twitched at the command. Like Serena wanted, Aurora moved just barely in time, so that the Peck hit her side instead of head on. She let out a small yelp of pain, as she had never before battled and was not used to Pokemon-induced pain. Before the foe had time to retreat back, Aurora opened her jaws and aimed her Bite attack.
While the technique was, so far, going as Serena had wanted, it was impossible to tell if it was due to her wishes, Aurora's similar plan, or Aurora's incapability to completely dodge the oncoming attack.Aurora was hit by peck.Aurora used BITE!

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] With his peck audibly connecting with this fire dog, the cretin of a bird felt his feathers puff with pride that was short lived. Instead of flaunting his strike, the Spearow soon found the air conserved for a delighted squawk being used for a pained caterwaul soon as the Growlithe's fangs grabbed onto him. Wings flapping frantically, he attempted to break free of his opponent's jaw, taking the moment to also PECK at his muzzle in a fear induced attempt to break free. BITE CONNECTED! -7 HP HP: 13/20 |

s e r e n a ! The flurry of feathers as the Spearow tried to escape temporarily blinded the Growlithe. She couldn't see through the mass of wing and feathers that the opponent was aiming another Peck at her. The attack struck Aurora's nose, causing her to jerk backwards. However, thanks to the previous Growl Attack, the pain wasn't as bad as it could have been. Temporarily shocked, she merely stood there and watched as the Spearow freed himself from her grip.
On the sidelines, Serena couldn't believe that her Growlithe had let the foe escape. She said, with a hint of anger, "Don't let it escape, you weak Pokemon."
With a growl of indignation, Aurora tensed her haunches. Before she could let the Spearow flee from her range, the Growlithe leaped forward and tried to Bite the tail feathers that Serena had previously stepped on.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] Satisfied but rattled as he flew from his opponent's mouth, another loud squawk came from his beak as tail feathers were once again met with an assault, quite a few of them parting from his rear and forcing the bird to become so off balance that he landed upon his back on the grassy floor with quite a few feathers missing from his backside. Plenty weaker from Growlithe's newest attack, with a wince he heaved himself up onto two talon clad legs and hopped backwards weakly. It was pride that didn't let the tiny Pokemon turn back and run. And instead, the weakened avian ran forward to peck at Aurora's legs determinedly. BITE CONNECTED! -7 HP HP: 6/20 |

s e r e n a ! Aurora's attack hit exactly as planned. The Growlithe landed unsteadily back onto the ground, spitting feathers out of her mouth. Right in front of her, the Spearow plummeted back onto the ground. However, to her shock, he soon stood back up and ran over to attack her once more. The Peck hit her paw, though she knew better than to yelp out in pain again. Thanks to the Growl and the weakened state of her opponent, the Peck hardly caused enough pain to make her back off.
Serena watched with a neutral expression, though she knew the battle was nearing its end. "Well?" she asked, and then added, "Finish it off with another Bite attack."
Aurora sympathized with the Spearow, though she knew better than to show it. That would only hurt his pride even further than she expected it already was. The Growlithe jumped backwards, and then lunged forward with another Bite attack aimed at the Pokemon foe.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] The last thing he really saw was his peck hitting, and then a flurry of fangs before the tiny critter fell unconscious in the wake of his enemy's attack. Though he slipped into temporary darkness with injured pride and missing feathers, no one could really say he didn't put up a valiant fight. BITE CONNECTED! SPEAROW FAINTED! Aurora gained +1 LVL. s e r e n a ! Serena stared at the limp Spearow, a small kindle of pride burning within her. Her first battle ended in a success, so apparently the Growlithe wasn't as weak as she had previously assumed.
The Growlithe, meanwhile, was standing in the same position, next to the defeated enemy. For her as well, this was a first battle won. It seemed that this human believed that Aurora was her own to command. While she didn't believe that she needed the help, it did seem as if the trainer knew a bit about battling. It seemed that if she wanted to become stronger, she would have to forfeit a bit of her pride and travel with the human temporarily.
Serena dug a Pokeball out of the pocket of her bag. While she believed this Spearow to be weak, she was in need of a Flying-type Pokemon for later in her journey so that it would be easier to travel. Hopefully this one would prove its worth, as well. Her thumb hit the button on the Pokeball, this one being vacant. As it enlarged in her hand, she threw the capsule in the direction of the Spearow, an arc of fate that would determine the Pokemon's future.
Aurora grew to level six.Aurora learned EMBER!

s e r e n a ! Niko joined the team! The capsule stilled itself with a click. Serena walked over slowly, placing her hand on the cool metal. The warmth of the creature that lay within was unable to penetrate the metallic surface of the Pokeball. The trainer picked it up, then placed it back into her bag. The Spearow had fainted; she wouldn't be able to use it in a battle until she reached a Pokecenter.
Serena's brown gaze returned to the path in front of her. She would call him Niko, a simple name for a simple creature. "Come, Aurora," she murmured. Once more, she began to walk at a brisk pace, wanting to make good timing in her journey to the first village.
Somewhat unsure of herself, the Growlithe followed a few feet behind her new trainer. It was only until after the battle that Aurora was able to appreciate the new, vast world that lay in front of her.
