Skipping merrily along the path to Vida Village, Sophie hummed a happy tune to herself without a care in the world. A lot had happened today so far. She finally made it to the Kaspan Region from Kanto, got her very first pokemon from Professor Lief, and became an official trainer! The girl was no stranger to pokemon, her family raised lots of them. But this one was special. This one was hers.
Speaking of that pokemon, Sophie looked behind her to see Quake the Phanpy trotting happily just behind her. He was waving his stubby trunk around, and seemed to be in just as good of mood as she was. "This is gonna be so much fun! We're gonna meet lots of pokemon friends. Lots of people friends too! Oh, and we'll see lots of cool stuff in the Kaspan Region!" she giggled in excitement. There was just so much she wanted to do!
This journey wouldn't solely be about fun though. Sophie knew that. She was a trainer now. If she wanted to be a successful trainer, she would need to win lots of battles and show people that her pokemon were the best of the best. First, she would need more pokemon. Sophie stopped in the middle of the trail and spun around so that she faced Quake. "Whaddaya say, Quake? We still got a while before we get to Vida. Let's look for some more friends!" The Phanpy tooted its trunk, followed by a swift nod. What kind of pokemon would they find out here?

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]5.1lbs of absolute SPEED swooped down past Sophie's head and over Quake. A blur of blue-red-and-grey soon came to a staggering halt on a tree branch. That .1 of a pound was very important; that was it's brake fat! Screeching, the Taillow turned and faced the young trainer and her elephant looking Pokemon, glaring hard at them with his yellow eyes. What were they doing, walking around on HIS route like they owned the place?! With the recent intake of trainers on the island, this route was becoming increasingly popular, thus making Pokemon who called this route home a target for new trainers like the human he stared at. A yellow berry sat clutched in its talons, in risk of being squished into berry juice. Again, the Taillow screeched at the pair, hoping from spot to spot in hopes of scaring the pair away. "Mmm?" Sophie's attention was drawn away from her partner when she heard screeching. It only took a moment to discover the source of the noise. There was a little bird pokemon with dark blue plumage perched upon a tree branch. He didn't look happy in the slightest, but the girl didn't seem to notice one bit. She was far too excited. "Hey! It's a Taillow!" Sophie exclaimed as she pointed up at it.
Why was he screeching so much at them? It was kind of annoying, but Sophie wasn't too worried about it. A potential partner was a potential partner, and having a Taillow on her growing team would definitely be worth while. There was only one problem though. Quake couldn't reach him all the way up in that tree he was hopping around him. How were they supposed to get him down? And what was that yellow thing in his talons?
Sophie thought about it for a second before pointing a finger at the bird. "Alrighty Mr. Taillow! I challenge you to a battle! You against Quake, how 'bout it?" she announced. The girl had no idea if that would actually work. Tossing a glance in Quake's direction, the miniature elephant was snorting its trunk at the wild pokemon. He looked like he was itching for a fight. The only question was did the Taillow understand the challenge. More importantly, would it accept?

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true] Was she seriously pointing at him!? Didn't she know that it sent a signal to him, screaming 'I want your berry!'? The Taillow puffed his chest out and flew down, putting his berry protectively in the bushes behind him. He gave it one last longing look before clawing it back into his talons, protectively holding it. This human wasn't going to get his berry - she'd have to catch him! Locking his gaze from the human to the elephant on the route, he flapped his wings to lift himself up into the air. then he dived down in a tackle attack.

Sophie's eyes widened as the Taillow swooped down at Quake and tackled the miniature elephant to the ground. "But... But I didn't say 'go' yet... Sophie grumbled before immediately perking up. She didn't have time to whine or complain. The Taillow had accepted her challenge! This was going to be her very first pokemon battle ever! She would have to concentrate if she wanted to show the world her stuff.
Face full of determination, she looked over at Quake. The Phanpy had already recovered from the surprise tackle, and was glaring daggers at the dark blue bird. "You okay, Quake? Teach that Taillow a lesson with a Tackle of your own!" Sophie commanded. With a resolute trumpet, Quake charged full force at the wild Taillow. Not only did he want to show his new trainer how tough he was, he wanted to give this bird a little taste of his own medicine.
As she watched Quake go, Sophie noticed that she could see the yellow things in Taillow's claws a lot clearer now that he was on the ground. Was that a Charti berry? That could definitely be useful on her journey as a trainer. Still, given the choice between the two she would much rather get a pokemon than a berry. Maybe she would get lucky and end up with both.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]Landing on the ground after hitting a tackle on the blue elephant, the arrogant Taillow chirped and marched around in a tiny circle; he was extremely proud of himself for getting the first hit and in the end, defending his berry. He stopped to preen before a dinosaur of a tackle smacked him right in the side, sending the little blue bird sailing into the bushes beside his berry. A few seconds passed and the little blue bird was back in action, squalling furiously at the other Pokemon before flying back down at it into a tackle attack. TAILLOW used tackle!

Sophie cringed as she watched her pokemon get tackled again. "You okay, Quake?" she asked. The Phanpy replied by hopping back to his feet and giving another proud trumpet with his snout. He sure liked making noise with his nose like that. Sophie wasn't sure if it was just because he enjoyed it, or if that was the only way he could communicate. She had never had this much contact with a Phanpy, since it wasn't one of the many species of pokemon her family had raised.
The girl looked back at the Taillow. He looked so arrogant, it was actually kind of irritating. "Don't let 'im push you around like that! Show him who's boss with another tackle!" she ordered. Quake reared up, much like a horse would, before charging once more at the cocky little Taillow. Once he was close enough, the little elephant dove at the bird in another tackle attack.

A Wild Pokemon Has Appeared! [atrb=border,0,true]The bird wasn't taking this very well. He didn't like being threatened and he didn't like losing, either. When the tackle hit, he knew that he was now on borrowed time. this elephant like Pokemon was stronger than him, and of course there was a type disadvantage somewhere. The bird fluttered away from the battle, a few feet now away from the Phanpy and its young owner. Catching his breath, he closed his eyes, and there was a slight energy ripple in the air. He was beginning to store energy, and was at his easiest point to be caught. TAILLOW used focus energy! Sophie's face shifted into a confident grin as she watched the wild Taillow. He was looking pretty weak. Maybe now would be her chance to capture it and add it to her team! She had been itching to use one of the pokeballs that Professor Lief had handed to her ever since she had laid eyes upon the little dark blue bird. Yes, the time was now.
Giggling to herself in anticipation, the young girl shoved a hand into her pocket and pulled out a pokeball. "Here I go... Quake, duck!" she called out to her Phanpy as she let the spherical device fly from her hand. Quake rolled to the side so that he wouldn't get in the way. As much as he wanted to finish the Taillow off, he knew that this was for the best. As the pokeball whizzed past him and swiftly closed the distance between the Taillow and itself, Sophie watched with impatient eyes. She held her breath, almost as if she thought that would be the deciding factor between capturing and not capturing her first wild pokemon. Time seemed to stand still for both her and her partner. This was it, the moment of truth.
